By: Staff Who is 'JohnnyRodes'? My name is Johnny Rodes, and I am the founder and lead singer of Johnny Rodes Outlaw Band at www.johnnyrodes.com. I am based out of Nashville TN, and I will be touring the USA and Europe in 2005. I am also the founder of Back Rodes Music Outlaws at www.backrodesmusicoutlaws.com which is a support group for indie artists. I have the backing of over 120 Supermodels from around the world and will be making waves this year in the music business. I also have a dynamite backing singer named Jadie Laine who is not only a knockout singer, model and dancer, she is also a great girl. I especially want to thank my manager and producer, Renee Nicole Morgan, who is the backbone of the Johnny Rodes Outlaw Band. She directed, produced and co-wrote my music video and has gathered over 40 sponsors for me. She pulled off the miracle of a lifetime by getting my music video sponsored right down to the food the horses ate, 5 days on location with over 100 actors, horses, cannons and all filmed on an historic Civil War battlefield. Jadie and Renee are also the leaders of my Outlaw Girls which travel with me and cause excitement wherever I go. How and when did you get started writing and performing music? I started writing songs when I was 12 years old and have been perfecting the art since then. I have been in over 12 bands during my lifetime and have worked very hard at being the best I can be ... I grew up in California in a musical family. My brothers all play and write music. My father and uncles were in Country music and even my dog sings when he feels the urge... What inspirations do you draw from in your writing & performing? Who are some of your influences or musical 'heroes'? Thats a tough one.. John Lennon is my idol.. He was one of the original Rebels and I have studied his writings my whole life. Some of the others that have a big influence on my writing are: Kid Rock, Eagles, Bad Company, CCR, Lnynrd Skynyrd, Matchbox 20, Alanis M., and many others.. I've been compared by critics to John Lennon, Kid Rock and Skynyrd in a blender... What are you currently working on? I am currently working on my CD titled Southern Etiquette which will be on sale Feb 15th 2005. My tour kicks off April 17th at the Rivers and Spires festival in Clarksville TN and then off to Knoxville TN on April 23 as the headlining act for the Fountain City Festival... from there it is a world wind of dates and locations. I am being interviewed by critics in Europe and will be doing alot of gigs across the ocean this year. I am also filming a second music video this June in Nashville which will be on my song "A girl can't go wrong in a tiny red thong" and it will feature 20 of the top supermodels in the world.. all are my friends and are backing me. I'm lucky to have so many top models who follow my work. Briefly, what are some of your thoughts on the current state of the music world, and where this industry is heading? Don't get me into that... I don't like the way labels crush artists and keep them locked into deals that go nowhere. I know many artists that are signed with major labels that don't get any support in their careers. There are many stories I could go into but I will refrain from that in this article. If you could change one thing about the music industry, what would it be? More venues for indie artists to play and the end to PAYOLA... pay for play on the radio.. .. What would you say is the most important lesson you've learned in the music business that new artists should know? Don't trust just anyone. The Music biz is a tough life and you have to watch your back all the way. I know from personal experience. I have had my share of jealous people attack me and you just need to keep your dreams alive and focus on the positive... What do you hope this online community (SongRamp) will do for you and other members? What's your view on the Internet in general as it relates to today's musicians? Songramp is an awesome site and I have made some great friends here.. It gives the writer the chance to collab with other writers, get feedback on material and share songs for all to hear. I am very impressed with Blake Hill especially for being such a class act and helping me get my feet wet in the two months I've been a member. The interent opens doors to writers that were closed before. I can collab with my friend in Germany, reach out to artists in different countries with a click of the mouse and talk to critics via email. What a great invention the internet is. I have fan club members in 42 countries and that would be almost impossible if not for the internet. I also wanted to send a personal message to Eden who lost his son last month. My heart is with you and your family. I will dedicate my first concert this year to your sons memory...... Any last thoughts? I want the world to know that my band and I will be crusing into your towns this year and I hope everyone gets a chance to feel the excitement I feel as I prepare for my tour. I have spent countless days working on my career an dits all finally starting to pay off.. I also want to thank all the great writers in the race for FEB AOM as it was a tough group to hold off. Houndsound was as deserving as anyone to win, and I will be nominating him next month for sure.
